Dialogue Space Gisela Erler

  Dear Partners and Friends,

Gisela Erler is a German researcher, feminist, entrepreneur and politician, who has played a critical role in the development of family benefits, such as parental allowance and the right to a day-care place for children, in Germany. In her ten years as a member of the state government of Baden-Württemberg, she worked to build Germany’s civil society and citizen participation, which led to her support in the development of the Roma mother center in Belgrade. From the very beginning of the mother center movement, Gisela Erler was there as a family researcher at the German Youth Institute.

Today, democracy is in danger in so many countries. Populist leaders are gaining support, and they are strategically opposed to the self-determination and co-determination of the peoples of Europe. Gisela, however, wants to encourage us to see mother centers as places of democratic, grassroots exchange and as inspiration for a pluralistic and vibrant society.

Mother Centers International Network for Empowerment e.V. (MINE) members from mother center networks in Slovakia, Hungary, Bavaria and the Mother Center Initiative for Ukraine will share their insights and tell us about their experiences in the project “Mothers for Peace and Ecology”  Together with Gisela Erler, they will reflect upon and exchange ideas on how we can take action to strengthen our democracy and promote community dialogue in our own mother centers and neighborhoods.

We cordially invite you to take part in our DialogueSpace as we listen, consider, and speak together. Let’s work together to stay connected, confident, alert and ready to act in these confusing and challenging times.
